Lyrics

Behind the backstop

And at the breakfast table

On the school bus and other

Assorted torture chambers

The temperature drops

The snow falls the glacier forms

       CHORUS

    Ten thousand tons of ice

    Are crushing you into a

    Beautiful, one-of-a-kind boy

    The thaw will come

    And you will be Yosemite

Year by year, hour by hour

Insults scrape, lonelinesses scour

Leaving erratics and striations

Glacial terrain

         CHORUS

I've seen the brightest sparks

Glowing in the faces of my friends

Whose lives have been the biggest mess

And there are no landmarks

Made out of ordinary places

Only landscapes that have seen

The most distress

Someday you will dare

To open your heart

And you'll melt one like mine

Because you are worth knowing,

Worth loving, after all

   CHORUS

   The thaw will come

   And you will be Yosemite

Lyrics

You said what you said, and I did what I did
And now there ain't no turnin' back
If you would forgive we could live and let live
But our love has faded to black
      CHORUS
When the preacher said "love, honor, cherish”
We both sealed the deal with "I do"
Our love is a mess, but it ain't over yet
Right now our love is black and blue
I heard what you meant, and I can't let it go
It's done now so what can I do?
If I would forgive, we could live and let live
But our rosy love now is blue
      CHORUS
Our hearts are torn and heavy
Full of bullets we have fired
We're not dead, we just lay bleeding
We're alive, but we are tired, so tired

You still make me laugh, and I care what you think
Contrary to the way things appear
I can't read your mind, but I'll never give up tryin'
And I will always love you, my dear
When the preacher said "love, honor, cherish"
We both sealed the deal with "I do"
Our love is a wreck, but it ain't over yet
Right now our love is black and blue
And my dear, I will always love you

Lyrics

You came into my life with your easy ways

Sweet smile and laugh, I just had to care

And though I tried, I did not dream you up

You stand a flesh and blood answered prayer

      CHORUS

You are a man like no other

      You heal my heart

You kiss me like there’s no tomorrow

I long for you when we’re apart

That’s was love is, that’s what love is

You understand me as no one has before

I feel so safe when I’m with you

Photos fill our picture books with sweet memories

The world is our cocoon, made just made for two

      CHORUS

When the hummingbird was trapped inside

Against the window

You opened it so she could find the sky

You heard my feathers flutter

And you helped me find my wings

You helped me find my wings and learn to fly

      CHORUS

That’s what love is, that’s what love is

Story

On a visit to Ireland, Trish saw that in the pubs there, women host "hen parties" or bridal showers and have a grand time. Trish decided to write a women's drinkin' song, don'tcha know? Ach!  We almost forgot to tell ya that Sláinte is the Gaelic term for Cheers!  So Sláinte everyone!  To your health!  Pronounced --sláncha

Lyrics

He tossed down a pint, said he’d come from the sea

And all evenin’ that fisherman flirted with me

Then went home to his wife and his family of three

Raise a glass to the men of Ireland

       CHORUS

Here’s a toast to the men of Ireland

Ya know they’ll be bendin’ your ear

    They’re strong and they’re wise,

    They’re full of surprise

And blarney and bluster and beer

Me brother in Limerick is chatty and bold

He’ll regale you with stories and legends of old

And it’s too bad you can’t trust a word you’ve been told

Raise a glass to the men of Ireland

       CHORUS

Here’s to me boyfriend, we’re soon to be wed

He’s formal and proper, he keeps a cool head

But in private, his blue words can turn me cheeks red

Raise a glass to the men of Ireland

       CHORUS

When dad comes home tipsy he’s pickin’ a fight

We keep to ourselves and we stay out of sight

But he’ll bring me mum flowers the very next night

Raise a glass to the men of Ireland

       CHORUS

I’ve an uncle in Dublin, a fine engineer

So steady and strong he’ll not show any fear

But a heartbreaking movie can bring him a tear

Raise a glass to the men of Ireland

       CHORUS

    They’re strong and they’re wise

    They’re full of surprise

And blarney and bluster and beer

So, who’s buyin’ the next round o’ cheer?

       Sláinte!

Lyrics

Simon says it’s been a long time

We’re overdue, c’mon let’s get together

We come and go, we barely say hello

Simon says this can’t go on forever

I wanna play the game but I don’t like the rules

   CHORUS

You would look good if you were

   Wrapped around my shoulders

Fill the kettle, turn it on and wait with me

I don’t want you wrapped around my little finger

I just wanna have you, honey, with my tea

   Honey with my tea

Let’s play some ring-around-the-rosie

We’re going ‘round in circles anyway

Ready or not I’m gonna chase you now

Is this gonna be my lucky day?

I wanna play the game but I don’t like the rules

   CHORUS

You would look good if you were

   Wrapped around my shoulders

Fill the kettle, turn it on and wait with me

I don’t want you wrapped around my little finger

I just wanna have you, honey

Fill the kettle, turn it on and wait with me

Honey honey honey, honey honey, oh yeah yeah

Honey honey honey, honey honey honey, yeah yeah

   Yeah yeah

Story

This song started out as a slow country ballad. After hearing a quick paced song on the radio one day, Joan decided to crank it up and uh, yeah, it's not country on this version!

Lyrics

      CHORUS

My turn, my turn, when’s it gonna be my turn?

My turn, my turn, when’s it gonna be my turn?

Is there something more that I gotta learn

Before it’s my turn, my turn, my turn?

My old boyfriend told me he was misunderstood

It turned out that man is a hundred percent no good

My sister’s getting married and I think it’s not fair

I’m the oldest, shoulda been me up there

      CHORUS

Everywhere I go I see couples holding hands

They don’t even speak, it seems they just understand

As I lie alone in bed, every night I say prayer

Help me find a good man to care

      CHORUS

Don’t I deserve happiness?

Sometimes I start to wonder.

Is this a line I’m standin’ in?

Do I need to take a number, number?

My turn, my turn, when’s it gonna be my turn?

My turn, my turn, when’s it gonna be my turn?

Is there something more that I gotta learn

Before it’s my turn, my turn,

When’s it gonna be my turn, my turn

When’s it gonna be my turn, my turn, for love?

My turn for love, my turn for love?

Lyrics

They came here speaking Polish, Italian, Greek or Dutch

Stepping out from Ellis Island, they didn't know too much

Of the customs and the language

They’d find upon these shores

But they understood the promise of America

From Germany, from Ireland, from Russia, Spain and France

They sailed here empty-handed, they came to take a chance

And the lady in the harbor

With her glowing torch held high

Lit their way toward the promise of America

They embraced the U.S. motto, “from many we are one”

Hands on hearts they swore allegiance

Their new lives had begun as Americans

They were Americans

They blended many cultures, from sea to shining sea

Learned a common language, forged a new identity

As they left behind their old ways

They strengthened this great land

And fulfilled the golden promise of America

Yes, they understood the promise of America

Story

This song was written after the trio discussed writing a song for a performance celebrating EARTH DAY in Santa Monica, CA on the Mamapalooza Stage. Searching for ideas on being green, the Kermit the Frog song, "IT'S NOT EASY BEING GREEN" was mentioned.  Linda flipped the idea, took off with it and in a very short time had a song about being green. Audience members love to sing along too!  SEE THE VIDEO ON OUR VIDEO LIST HERE

Lyrics

                  CHORUS

       It’s so easy being green

If you love the sky and sea

       It just makes sense, naturally

Come and take a walk with me

       CHORUS

The path of conservation

And sustainability

Is one that we must follow

If we want to continue to breathe

       CHORUS

Let’s not trash the planet we’re sharing

Let’s turn off the lights that we don’t need

If we crave fresh herbs and vegetables

Let us grow them from tiny seeds

Reduce, reuse, recycle

We know it’s the right thing to do

Let us keep the earth a nice place to live

For those who come after me and you

       CHORUS

       It’s so easy being green

Story

At a very fun songwriting retreat in Canada, which featured vocal classes with Grammy Award Winner Kathy Mattea, and songwriting with her Grammy Award Winning husband Jon Vezner, we had an assignment to co-write a song.  I happily sat down with Canadians Darla Cooper and Karen Hatch, who are in a Victoria B.C. band called....get ready....THE CHICKWAGON!  We spent a delightful afternoon writing this song and sang it for the gang after dinner.  Having meals with Kathy Mattea and Jon Vezner, well, it doesn't get much better than that...oh and Trish was there too!   Joan

Lyrics

Business suits, stockings and heels

Puttin' up my hair for all those business deals

For now it's enough just knowin'

What is is that keeps me goin'

    CHORUS

Friday night I let my hair down

    At the Golden Spur Saloon

Night and day I'm in a different world

    Friday night I'm doin' a two-step

And I'm just one of the girls

I'm alive when I'm in my boots and pearls

One of these days I'm gonna find a way

To ditch these designer duds and wear jeans every day

For now, it's enough just knowin'

What it is that keeps me goin'

    CHORUS

Mama gave me these pearls and they mean so much to me

I feel her spirit every time I let my soul run free, like

Friday night I let my hair down

    At the Golden Spur Saloon

Night and day I'm livin' in a different world

    Friday night I'm doin' a two-step

And I'm just one of the girls

I'm alive when I'm in my boots and pearls

I'm alive when I'm in my boots and pearls

Lyrics

Sailing here on an angry sea

I’m up, I’m down, winds blowing

Overhead, a confusing canopy

Still I see where I’m going

And I don’t fear the dark of night

I’m heading for your light

   You are my True North

My guiding star

My life, my love, my destination

True North, that steady beacon

Guiding me back home

In some distant galaxy,

Many suns are burning brighter

It’s you I see in front of me

And so I hold on tighter

No matter if I’m tempest-tossed

My hope will not be lost

   You are my True North

My guiding star

My life, my love, my affirmation

True North that steady beacon

Guiding me back home

When my compass fails I look to the sky

And I find you standing by

   You are my True North

My guiding star

My life, my love, my inspiration

True North that steady beacon

Guiding me back home

   Guiding me back home

Story

This fun song was written by our good friend, Tracy Newman.  Tracy is an Emmy Award winning television writer known for her work on the Ellen sitcom, and as co-creator of the Jim Belushi sitcom, "ACCORDING TO JIM."

Lyrics

Some folks say before they die

They want to run with the bulls

Some want to ride the eye of a hurricane

Some want to live like there’s no tomorrow

Then they’re strappin’ on a ‘chute

And jumpin’ out of a plane

Well, I’m not lookin’ to push my luck or tempt my fate

To get there early just to

Stand in line at those Pearly Gates

And besides having a few more vodka tonics

My bucket list only has one small item upon it

   CHORUS

   Before I die, I, I, I, I, I

Just want to get one straight answer from you

Some folks say what keeps this old world turnin’ around

Is everybody having something to look forward to

Like a meal, like a show, like something fantastic

For me,that something is you

Well, I’m not lookin’ to clip your wings

Or cramp your style

I’m not asking you to buy the cow

Just a simple yes or no, are you coming to dinner?

Instead of “Do I have to tell you now?”

   CHORUS

You love to tell me you love me

That’s so easy for you to say

But when I ask, “When will you be here?”

You won’t give me the time of day

If Scarlett Johansson asked you to take her to coffee

Would you give her the same runaround you give me?

I’m cursed ‘cuz you know you’ve already got me

So you see no need for common courtesy

Well, I’m not lookin’ to change human nature

Beauty can bring the best of us to our knees

But if you’re not scoring tonight with Scarlett Johansson

You might wanna give an ETA to me

   CHORUS

Just wanna get one straight answer from you

Lyrics

There will never be another

Who makes my heart feel like this

No one else has captured me

With just one kiss, with just one kiss

I have waited for the man of my dreams

And here you are

Your smile, your touch is everything to me

This is forever, this is forever

        CHORUS

I keep falling, falling, deeper in love with you

I keep falling, falling, deeper in love with you

We have a love to stand the test of time

Beyond a shadow of a doubt

You’ve made me want to be the best I can

You’re all I think about, you’re all I think about

         CHORUS

I can see the love in your eyes is just for me

We’ll stay together, darlin’ be mine, I’ll be yours eternally

         CHORUS

         CHORUS

         I keep falling, falling, falling

Lyrics

Don’t look back

Gotta keep lookin’ forward

Don’t look back

Gotta keep movin’ on

Time to give up the past, ‘cause it don’t last

Does me no good to keep holding fast

No more alas and alack

Don’t look back

Don’t look back

Leavin’ troubles behind me

Don’t look back

I made up my mind

No more grief, no gloom, no dread

No more power in those words you said

I’m ignorin’ that ol’ yakity yak

Don’t look back

I know I can’t change

What I’ been through

But I’m in control

Of my attitude

Don’t look back

I have faith in tomorrow

Don’t look back

I’m waitin’ up for the sun

I see in that light a future so bright

Every day is like love at first sight

I’m on a whole new track

Don’t look back

It’s a brand new day, gonna find my way

Start over again, hear me when I say

I’m on a whole new track

Don’t look back, don't look back, don't look back

Story

Recorded with Nashville Tracks and wonderful, well known Nashville sessions players, this studio track includes cello and a gorgeous Spanish guitar. The seagull sounds are from the cello.  Who knew? This song is from the CD BEAUTIFUL at www.cdbaby.com/cd/womenonthemove

Lyrics

How can I save a drowning man

Who doesn’t want to be saved?

How can I keep my head up high

When the waves around me rage?

I reach out my hand but you won’t take it

I say I’ll drown too but I can’t fake it

       CHORUS

No, I want to live, feel the sun on my skin

My heart is still beating, I want more

       I’m saving myself this time

       And heading for shore

It nearly kills me now to leave

I’ll surely die if I don’t

You’d let me sacrifice myself

But this time I won’t

I reach out my hand but you won’t take it

I say I’ll drown too but I can’t fake it

       CHORUS

No argument, no farewell kiss

No pleading, no tearful goodbye

I never thought we’d end like this

You turn away, and so do I

       CHORUS

       Heading for shore

       Heading for shore
