From the recording BOOTS AND PEARLS
At a very fun songwriting retreat in Canada, which featured vocal classes with Grammy Award Winner Kathy Mattea, and songwriting with her Grammy Award Winning husband Jon Vezner, we had an assignment to co-write a song. I happily sat down with Canadians Darla Cooper and Karen Hatch, who are in a Victoria B.C. band called....get ready....THE CHICKWAGON! We spent a delightful afternoon writing this song and sang it for the gang after dinner. Having meals with Kathy Mattea and Jon Vezner, well, it doesn't get much better than that...oh and Trish was there too! Joan
Lyrics
Business suits, stockings and heels
Puttin' up my hair for all those business deals
For now it's enough just knowin'
What is is that keeps me goin'
CHORUS
Friday night I let my hair down
At the Golden Spur Saloon
Night and day I'm in a different world
Friday night I'm doin' a two-step
And I'm just one of the girls
I'm alive when I'm in my boots and pearls
One of these days I'm gonna find a way
To ditch these designer duds and wear jeans every day
For now, it's enough just knowin'
What it is that keeps me goin'
CHORUS
Mama gave me these pearls and they mean so much to me
I feel her spirit every time I let my soul run free, like
Friday night I let my hair down
At the Golden Spur Saloon
Night and day I'm livin' in a different world
Friday night I'm doin' a two-step
And I'm just one of the girls
I'm alive when I'm in my boots and pearls
I'm alive when I'm in my boots and pearls
