WRITER AND LEAD SINGER: TRISH LESTER (PATRICIA B LESTER, BMI)

Story

On a visit to Ireland, Trish saw that in the pubs there, women host "hen parties" or bridal showers and have a grand time. Trish decided to write a women's drinkin' song, don'tcha know? Ach!  We almost forgot to tell ya that Sláinte is the Gaelic term for Cheers!  So Sláinte everyone!  To your health!  Pronounced --sláncha

Lyrics

He tossed down a pint, said he’d come from the sea

And all evenin’ that fisherman flirted with me

Then went home to his wife and his family of three

Raise a glass to the men of Ireland

       CHORUS

Here’s a toast to the men of Ireland

Ya know they’ll be bendin’ your ear

    They’re strong and they’re wise,

    They’re full of surprise

And blarney and bluster and beer

Me brother in Limerick is chatty and bold

He’ll regale you with stories and legends of old

And it’s too bad you can’t trust a word you’ve been told

Raise a glass to the men of Ireland

       CHORUS

Here’s to me boyfriend, we’re soon to be wed

He’s formal and proper, he keeps a cool head

But in private, his blue words can turn me cheeks red

Raise a glass to the men of Ireland

       CHORUS

When dad comes home tipsy he’s pickin’ a fight

We keep to ourselves and we stay out of sight

But he’ll bring me mum flowers the very next night

Raise a glass to the men of Ireland

       CHORUS

I’ve an uncle in Dublin, a fine engineer

So steady and strong he’ll not show any fear

But a heartbreaking movie can bring him a tear

Raise a glass to the men of Ireland

       CHORUS

    They’re strong and they’re wise

    They’re full of surprise

And blarney and bluster and beer

So, who’s buyin’ the next round o’ cheer?

       Sláinte!
